Managing Your Emotions is Your Gold

When I first saw the cover of my debut picture book, You Are Your Strong, I was amazed at the beautiful gold finish. I had never seen anything like it. Then, I realized that it was perfect because knowing how to manage your emotions is your GOLD! In fact, you can't really be happy in life and successful if you are not in control of your emotions. Reacting to everything would make you feel like a tumbleweed, going from one emotion to the next. Or,  say you feel a certain emotion - like sadness, anger, or worry, but then you stay stuck there. Difficult emotions like anger, frustration, sadness, etc. are meant to be felt then processed then let go (of course grief is a different matter). We are not meant to stay in uncomfortable  emotions for very long. Of course adult modeling is the best way to teach our kids, but ultimately everyone needs to know and understand that we all have the capability to manage our emotions.  If we did, we would live in a more peaceful world with less violence and chaos. So, let's find our gold and be the thermostat, not the thermometer!
